The song was written by Black (born Colin Vearncombe) and Dave Dix. “I’m not Afraid” was released as the fourth single from Black’s debut studio album “Wonderful Life” (1987) with “Have It Your Own Way” on the B-side. The single reached only #78 on the Official UK singles chart.

American singer, songwriter, and record producer Marvin Gaye (Marvin Pentz Gay Jr) was born. In 1982, he reached the top ten in numerous countries with "Sexual Healing", the lead single from his seventeenth studio album, "Midnight Love". Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his father on April 1st 1984.
