English singer-songwriter and guitarist Nick Heyward was born. He rose to fame as the lead singer and songwriter for new wave group Haircut 100. In the 80's they had four top-ten singles in the UK: "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)", "Love Plus One", "Fantastic Day", and "Nobody's Fool".

American singer and actress Cher (Cherilyn Sarkasian) was born. She rose to fame in 60's as one-half of duo Sonny & Cher. In 1989, she released three hit singles: "After All" (with Peter Cetera), "If I Could Turn Back Time", and "Just Like Jesse James". In 1998, Cher released the dance-pop album Believe, whose title track became the biggest-selling single of all time by a female artist in the UK.

The Christians, Holly Johnson, Paul McCartney, Gerry Marsden and Stock Aitken Waterman started a three-week run at #1 in the UK "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey". The song was written by Gerry Marsden and originally recorded by his band Gerry and the Pacemakers (1964). The cover was released for The Hillsborough Disaster Fund in aid of those affected by the disaster at a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium.
