The song was written and first recorded (as “You’re In The Army Now”) by the South African-born Dutch duo Bolland & Bolland in 1982. It topped the singles charts in Finland and Norway.
The cover by Status Quo was released as the third single from the band’s seventeenth album, of the same name. The single was released in September 1986 with “Heartburn” on the B-side. The single reached the top ten in numerous countries, including #1 in Germany and Ireland, and #2 in the UK and Spain.
