English musician Paul Weller was born. He rose to fame as the frontman of the bands "The Jam" and "The Style Council". In the 80's The Jam had four number one hits in the UK: "Going Underground" / "Dreams of Children" (1980), "Start!" (1980), "Town Called Malice" / "Precious" (1982), and "Beat Surrender" (1982).

Wham! reached number one in the U.S. with "Everything She Wants" and stayed there for two weeks. It was released as the fourth (and final) single from their second album "Make It Big".
