“Disenchanted” reached #29 on the UK Singles Chart, spending five weeks there. It also climbed to #20 in Ireland, #47 in the Netherlands, and #43 on Billboard’s US Dance/Maxi-Singles Sales chart. While it wasn’t a huge commercial hit, it proved that The Communards could follow up their breakout success with something bold and meaningful.
The track remains a fan favorite and was included in later reissues and deluxe editions, including the 35th Anniversary Edition of the album released in 2021. It’s part of a legacy where protest didn’t mean sacrificing musical joy.
