The song was written by The Cars’ lead vocalist, Ric Ocasek. “Shake It Up was released as the lead single from the band’s fourth studio album of the same name. The single was released in November 1981 with “Cruiser” on the B-side. It reached #2 on Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in the United States, #3 in the Netherlands, #7 in Canada, and #10 in Australia.
