Kylie Minogue – Made in Heaven
A B-side that shimmered with early charm and fan devotion

Released on 10 October 1988 as the B-side to Kylie’s single “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi,” “Made in Heaven” wasn’t given the spotlight of an A-side—but it’s earned affection as a hidden gem in her Stock Aitken Waterman pop universe. With bright synths, buoyant rhythm, and lyrics that hint at destiny and innocence, the track captures the sweet, carefree mood of Kylie’s early years.

Sound: hopeful sparkle, danceable heart

Clocking in at 3:29, the song is pure late-’80s optimism. Co-written and produced by Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman, it features a catchy melody, dreamy textures, and the line “They say true love is made in heaven,” repeated with glowing sincerity. It’s bouncy but gentle, designed for dance floors and teenage diaries alike.

An extended “Maid in England Mix” was released on the 12″ single, giving it extra spin in nightclubs and DJ sets.

Visuals: halo of nostalgia

Though it wasn’t a single, “Made in Heaven” got a music video—Kylie dancing in front of a bluescreen, surrounded by clips from earlier hits and framed in a glowing halo of light. First seen on The Hit Factory Volume 3 and later included in Greatest Hits 87–92, it’s more montage than narrative, echoing the dreamy retro-pop vibe of the track.

Promotion: bonus track, not chart hit

While “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi” peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, “Made in Heaven” didn’t chart independently, having never been pushed as an A-side. It was briefly considered for a double A-side release but was ultimately kept as the supporting track. It later appeared as a B-side to “It’s No Secret”, “Turn It into Love”, and “Never Too Late” in various international editions, making it one of the most circulated Kylie B-sides from the Kylie album era.

Live sparkle & soft legacy

Kylie performed the song at the 1988 Royal Variety Performance, introducing it as her “new song” in front of Queen Elizabeth II. It also showed up on her Disco in Dream tour, and nearly 25 years later popped up in her 2012 Hammersmith Apollo show—a lovely wink to devoted fans.

The track eventually earned a place on compilations like Greatest Hits 87–92 and Greatest Hits 87–97, and more recently as a bonus track in remastered releases. Never a headline act—but always a glowing part of the set list.
